Who are we?
We are Kids Helping Needy Kids, a small non-profit organization designed to help underprivileged children in Ethiopia. KHNK was founded by Lulit, Mehron, and Luladay Price. Our ages are 19, 17, and 12, respectively.
How we got started
While vacationing in Ethiopia in the summer of 2003, we were touched by the great need of the poor children that we met. It was amazing to us that we could have so much, and they so little. When we returned home, we decided that we needed to do something about their situations.
With the help of our parents, especially our mother, we began to sponsor three children by writing them letters and sending clothes and small toys around holidays. In addition, we sent them money every month out of our allowances. In 2004, three of our friends joined our cause, and we sponsored 6 children.
Our Goal for this year
In August 2005, we held our first annual KHNK Fundraiser. We raised awareness in our community, and spread the word about our organization. In August 2006, we traveled to Ethiopia and met all the children we sponsor. In summer 2007, KHNK held its second annual fundraiser and more fundraising activities are being planned for the spring of 2008. We are currently sponsoring 32 children but by the end of 2008, our goal is to sponsor 50-55 children. We are still searching for more sponsors; can we count on you?
How can you help
Our simple plan is to begin an individual sponsorship with one Ethiopian child. Our method is to give just $8.00 a month, the equivalent of 27¢ a day, or $100.00 a year. (Checks are made payable to “Lulit Price- KHNK”). This money will be sent monthly to your child, and covers only the basic needs of the child, including food.
School supplies and clothing are sent 4 times a year. We also request that sponsors write letters to your child, and to keep in touch with them.
If you are not ready to make the commitment of sponsoring, we also accept one-time monetary donations or care packages. Care packages are freezer size Ziploc bags filled with hygienic products, first aid materials, ponchos or light clothing, and school supply materials. It is important for all donated items to be lightweight, as mailing is expensive.
