Kids Helping Needy Kids's short-term plans include:
1. Student trip to Ethiopia (tentatively scheduled for Summer 2012) A small group of students will be heading to Ethiopia in the summer of 2012 to work with the children of the Debre Libanos Orphanage. Our goal is to help make the orphanage more self-sustaining. Our plans include planting a vegetable garden, building a bread oven or energy-efficient cooking stove, teaching intensive English classes, and establishing a free library. Students 18 or older enrolled at any college or university are welcome to apply for this opportunity. Applications will be posted in mid-2011.
2. Sustainability/Academic Scholarships One of our major goals at KHNK is continual redesign of our method for permanency and to ensure that we provide the best aid possible for each child we sponsor. Many people are familiar with the adage "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, and you feed him for life." At KHNK, we are interested in teaching each child "to fish" for themselves--by promoting education and offering incentives for superior student achievement. We would like to be able to offer academic scholarships in the future for students who demonstrate excellent achievement.
