Reflections from the founders:
"We decided to found a non-profit organization in 2003. Although founded only a few years ago, Kids Helping Needy Kids, Inc. has already reached some very important milestones. On March 15th, 2006, we successfully incorporated our organization. Our next big goal was becoming an official non-profit and filing for tax exemption. This was an arduous project, but we tackled it enthusiastically. We read how-to books and struggled through the endless pages and pages of legal jargon. Our efforts were coupled with the generous help of Mr. Vincent Wilkins, a lawyer who graciously donated his time and helped us along until we had all the necessary paperwork completed. And on January 30th, 2009, after years of hard work, we received notification from the IRS that KHNK was an official, licensed, tax-exempt non-profit organization.
The path to incorporation and tax-exemption was not easy. We have spent hours upon hours planning sponsors meetings, completing paperwork, and both hosting and running several major fundraising events. It has been a lot of work! The accomplishments of KHNK could not have been realized without the help of our parents, Tsige and Mark Price. They have worked right alongside us since the beginning designing the organization, setting up its structure, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly from month to month. Without their insight and wisdom, KHNK would not have been possible.
Sometimes, when we get tired, we like to take a minute to reflect. God has blessed us so greatly that the very least we can do is work to make a small difference in the lives of underprivileged children in Ethiopia. If not for the grace of God, each of us could be on the receiving end of an organization like KHNK; we count ourselves extremely fortunate to be its founders. One letter we received from a sponsored child being supported by KHNK sums up why we do what we do. He shared with us his excitement over his rising grades, and at the end of the letter avowed, 'When I grow up, I want to help a child in the same way that you are helping me. THANK YOU!!'"
